What people are saying
“As a screenwriter and first-time feature director, Sarah Cogan’s class From Text to Moving Image was like learning a new language for how best to communicate with my creative production teams. Beyond her expertise and stellar preparations for each class, Sarah’s passion for the topic and commitment to her students’ comprehension made each class a joy to attend. From learning about production design to costumes to framing to the power of color choice across the board, I now see every script I write in technicolor and possibility thanks to Sarah Cogan.”
“Sarah is a great teacher in addition to being a brilliant visual storyteller. In addition to thoroughly covering the nuts and bolts of foundational techniques, she helps you get inspired, and she helps you understand why any of this matters. Having these tools in my back pocket has greatly increased the production quality of my shots, even if I’m shooting on the fly. I came away inspired and ready to take on my next project with a new eye for visual details. Highly recommend!”
A LETTER FROM SARAH
Hello and Welcome!
Excited to have you here. Film education is lacking a major component that is holding many filmmakers back, possibly even you. The worst part, filmmakers don’t even know they are missing this information.
Over the course of my career, I watched filmmakers struggle to tell their stories in the way they’d dreamed of due to lack of planning and budget. Often, one of the biggest pieces of filmmaking process gets completely overlooked: their film’s design.
You see, film is a visual art based in the written word. We live in a world where people listen to how you say it over what you say. In film, your film’s design is your how. Your what is your script. Perfect your how and you will create films that stand the test of time.
My goal is to help filmmakers create work that gets them seen, heard, and to the next level of their career and creative abilities.
The Film Design Process is my life's passion, and I am thrilled to share this passion and knowledge with you.
See you in the trainings!
Sincerely,
SARAH COGAN
